Wolker is Gert-Jan Loobuyck, musician, producer and composer, based in Ghent, Belgium.
Gert-Jan is self-taught.
As a child he learns to play the drums and the piano on his own. By the age of ten he is a guitarist in his very first band.
Still, it isn’t until Gert-Jan hits his teens that he discovers his true calling in the recording of music.
With limited possibilities and limitless patience he learns how to perfect the sound and acoustics of a recording in a creative manner.
In addition to production and mixing work for local heroes, Gert-Jan also continues to play music himself: he mans the kit for electro band VC Live and Deejay Mr. T (Studio Brussel), and he is the bassist for Mickey Doyle, the project of close friend Michiel Libberecht, who has meanwhile made a name for himself as Mooneye.
Gert-Jan also continues to write his own music, such as the soundtrack to the Marc Desmet film ‘Opa’, which was released in theatres across Flanders in late 2017.
That is when Gert-Jan decides to become WOLKER and share his music with the public at large.
Wolker takes an atypical approach to making music: drawing inspiration from the likes of Johann Johansson, Olafur Arnalds, Penguin Café Orchestra and Son Lux, he thrives on feeling and atmosphere, he builds tension and creates a dynamic with a slightly melancholic undertone.
Indie acts such as Radiohead, Alt-J or Local Natives also have their place in Wolker’s universe, as illustrated by 'Situations', a triumphant indie pop anthem recorded, mixed and mastered from start to finish in Wolker's own bedroom.
The same thing goes for the video and the artwork.
Wolker is special. Wolker is a musical homo universalis with talent and vision.
